Supermarkets try to calm food shortage fears amid border chaos

We see Supermarkets once again in focus with another lockdown and key European borders closing.

  • Big 4 supermarket supply chains are very resilient and have now had several of these scenarios to hone their response
  • Whilst there may be some short term supply issues around some European sourced items, this is likely to be short lived
  • Consumer stockpiling just exacerbates the problem so please do avoid – there is plenty of food to go around
  • There may be a few G&Ts without a slice of lemon this Christmas!

Great to see the Supermarkets talking down fears of empty shelves at a time of peak seasonal demand. The UK grocery operator tenants of Supermarket Income REIT have continued to demonstrate their critical role in the nation’s food supply infrastructure.
