A record Christmas for UK grocers helped food stores to be the standout retail sales performer over the period, avoiding the malaise affecting the wider sector.
Non food retail sales were positive yoy but mom’s were negative due to the increased take up of Black Friday promotions (shifting Christmas spending into November).
Online sales continue to see strong growth with food up 3.7% and non food up 10.6% yoy.
