Research into Amazon’s US grocery operations has highlighted that grocery players need a multichannel offering to be successful, again pointing to the value in omnichannel stores.
Amazon purchased Whole Foods for over $13bn in 2017, deciding grocery needed a store network to fulfil internet orders. Meanwhile Walmart continues to build its out its portfolio of omnichannel stores.
Omnichannel has been proven as the winning solution in the UK for some time, with the major operators investing in the picking and delivery capacity of their supermarket stores.
